5 DIY Beauty Products Recipes

Sometimes you need time to relax and soak up the self-love. Going to the spa isn’t always realistic, but you can create some awesome DIY beauty products at home.

According to the EWG, women use an average of 12 products a day, containing 168 different chemicals. That’s a lot of chemicals absorbed through your skin daily. Some of those chemicals can actually be pretty harmful to you.

Click here to get your copy of my free pdf, “10 Harmful Ingredients to AVOID in Beauty Products,” and start recognizing some of these toxins.

In the meantime, let’s learn how to create some products of our own. I have done the searching for you and found some DIY beauty products. I think you will enjoy making and using. Bonus, you can even use this as a fun activity with the kids during the day that you can enjoy in the evening.

First up, Foot Soak!

Now, as a hairstylist, I stand on my feet ALOT! Sometimes at the end of the day, my tootsies are screamin’. So imagine, filling up a bin with nice warm water and relaxing while you relieve your tired feet and detox. Ahh…

Oats and Honey Face Mask

baileymc.designpacker.com

Ingredients:

3 Tbsp ground oatmeal

1 Tbsp raw honey

1 Tbsp warm water

Instructions:

Take whole oats and add to a grinder (I use a coffee grinder) and add to a bowl

Stir in honey and water to make a paste

Apply to face and neck for 15-20 mins

Use a towel to remove the mask or rinse with hands

Why Oatmeal?

It can soak up excess oil and help treat acne. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits help to treat dry skin and remove dead skin cells. They contain compounds called saponins, which remove dirt and oil that clog pores and exfoliate the skin.

Why Honey?

It is naturally antibacterial, which is great for acne treatment and prevention. Also, it is full of antioxidants, which is great for slowing down aging. Honey is extremely moisturizing, soothing, and creates glowing skin.

Next up is a bath soak! Who doesn’t love a relaxing time in the bath? Let all of your stress floats away.

Cucumber, Mint Bath Soak

https://thenerdyfarmwife.com/cucumber-mint-bath-soak/

Ingredients:

A few slivers/slices of fresh (organic) cucumber peel

About 1/2 cup of fresh mint leaves, very lightly packed

1 cup Epsom salt

Optional: a tiny drop of peppermint essential oil

Instructions:

Pour the Epsom salt in a food processor.

Add the cucumber peel and mint leaves and blend until the green color is evenly distributed through the salt.

Spread the green salt on wax paper to dry completely. (may take 1-2 days)

Once totally dry, crumble up the salt, stir in the essential oil (if using) and store in an air-tight glass jar until ready to use.

*Be very light-handed with peppermint essential oil since just a drop or two will do. Too much can irritate sensitive skin as you bathe.*

While you are soaking, you might as well do your hair mask. I recommend doing a hair mask 1-2 times a month. This is one that I personally love.

diy hair mask

Banana, Honey, Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Ingredients:

1 banana

1 Tbsp raw honey

2 Tbsp coconut oil

Instructions:

Mash banana or puree

Mix all ingredients in a bowl

Apply to damp hair

Put a shower cap over hair once mask is applied

Leave in for 20-30 mins

*Adjust recipe based on hair length

*Make sure there aren’t banana chunks, or you will have a hard time rinsing it out

Why Honey?

Honey is a natural humectant, which means it takes moisture from the air and locks it into your hair. Leaving your hair moisturized and shiny and resulting in less breakage and healthier hair.

Why Coconut Oil?

It adds luster, shine, and softness. It stimulates hair growth and helps with scalp irritations.

Why Banana?

They improve manageability and shine, prevent and control dandruff, and moisturize your scalp.
